WestRex Pty Ltd (WestRex) were engaged by Pensar to provide disposal solutions for per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substance(PFAS) impacted soil from the Growler Project (Phase 2) at RAAF Amberley.
PFAS is an extremely mobile contaminant that is persistent in the environment and is associated with historic fire-fighting activities involving the use of Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF).
WestRex was engaged to interpret the analytical soil testing results, assess the suitability of the contaminated soil for disposal to a licensed landfill and obtain the relevant landfill acceptance letters to facilitate disposal of the PFAS soil.
Approximately 8,500 tonnes of PFAS contaminated soil was transported and disposed, under a Soil Disposal Permit, to the Ti Tree Bioenergy facility located in Willowbank QLD, as part of a two-month excavation program undertaken by Pensar.
Project Highlights:
- PFAS contaminated soil assessed as meeting criteria suitable for lined landfill disposal at Ti Tree Bioenergy.
- Landfill acceptance letters obtained, with the Soil Disposal Permit provided by Pensar.
- Approximately 8,500 tonnes of PFAS contaminated soil was safely disposed over a two-month period.
- Additional contaminated soil was also received, outside the Soil Disposal Permit process, which was safely transported and disposed to Ti Tree Bioenergy utilising waste tracking certificates.
